The end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 promises to be rich in gaming environments. Over the next few months we will have the opportunity to witness interesting premieres and huge events, prepared directly for people rotating in the digital world.
David and Goliath
The hot topic of recent times is the rigorous attitude of Blizzard, the creator of such games as the popular MMO World of Warcraft or the Starcraft series, to the events taking place in the east. Or rather – their approach to players who, through their influence (for example, streams) try to publicize. What’s all the fuss about? Well, Blizzard acknowledged the behaviour of the professional e-sporter Chung ‘Blitzchung’ Ng Wai, who wore goggles and a gas mask on his face during one of the streams, which he wanted to express his full support for the protesting community of Hong Kong, whose inhabitants want to maintain their autonomous status.
The whole situation echoed in the gaming world as Chung was banned from tournaments for one year and all his money winnings were frozen. Ultimately, however, thanks indirectly to the influence of the “internet”, Blizzard commuted the fine to six months’ suspension and cancellation of the freeze. The whole situation has moved the growy world and there are certainly more people like ‘Blitzchung’. Everyone is curious how the creator will react to such situations in the future.
At the turn of 2019/2020 there will be a lot of interesting premieres waiting for more or less players. In January, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, which takes us into the world known from R. Kirkman’s comic books, will come out on a daily basis. Like other titles based on his work, Skydance Interactive throws us into the role of a
serial killer zombie hero who has to deal with hordes of dead enemies. In New Orleans, which is the setting of the title, two factions compete against each other – The Tower and Reclaimed. The player may opt for either side, but this is not obligatory. The game is supposed to be very brutal. How will it compare to other zombie titles in the main role? We’ll see.
Anyone who remembers
2016, the year of the past, also associates the Doom. The official reboot of the series will see its continuation in the form of Doom Eternal, which will be released in March 2020. Again, we will have hands full of rifles, weapons and other means of mass pacification. The action takes place some time after the end of the events from the first part – the Earth has been invaded by the forces of hell (for the hundredth time). At this moment on the white horse Demon Slayer (our protagonist). Fast action, grotesque monsters, lots of guns – one can say that the spirit of the series will survive for a long time.
According to many, the world will reach the gaming climax in April and May of the coming year. It has its premiere in Cyberpunk and the second part of The Las of Us. Both productions have captured a huge crowd of fans. No wonder – both games are masterpieces in their industry. A perfect proof of that is the famous Red tweet (creators of Cyberpunk). A modest “beep” was enough to drive people around the world crazy, which perfectly reflects the stock market value of CDR, which after publishing the post increased by nearly 130 mln $ (!!!!).
The second, however, is a heart-stopping game with a timeless plot, which presents the fate of Ellie, well known from the first part. This is what we will be directing in the upcoming production from Naughty Dog’s stable. Despite the fact that almost half a year has passed before its premiere, it has already managed to arouse some controversy. They concern – among other things – the real depiction of brutality, which stunned some reviewers. What is certain, however, is that both titles will sell in large quantities.
The gaming market is currently experiencing one of its most “colorful” periods. Lots of upcoming premieres and events focusing on gaming society. However, in parallel to the profit, the demands are also increasing. Players are increasingly emphasizing the freedom to play games and the elimination of commonly hated microtransactions (mainly those that give an advantage over the opponent in multiplayer games). Will the developers meet the expectations of their users or will we witness an “ignoring” approach on the part of producers? There is nothing left for us to do but to arm ourselves with patience and observe the situation.
